The Himalayan Dragon Fruits Enterprise is a proposed large-scale commercial dragon fruit cultivation and agro-processing venture to be established in Nganglam, Pemagatsel District, Bhutan. The enterprise is designed as an integrated agribusiness model focused on the production, processing, branding, and marketing of premium-quality dragon fruits grown in Bhutan’s clean and pristine environment. The project aims to address Bhutan’s increasing dependence on imported exotic fruits by developing a sustainable domestic dragon fruit industry capable of supplying high-quality fruits to local, regional, and future international markets. The enterprise will adopt climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable farming practices, including efficient irrigation systems, organic-oriented cultivation methods, and improved post-harvest management.
Beyond primary production, the enterprise envisions value addition through processing activities such as juice production, dried dragon fruit products, puree, and health-based products to enhance profitability and market diversification. The project will also promote contract farming and farmer participation to strengthen rural livelihoods and expand cultivation beyond the core plantation area.As a long-term agribusiness initiative, the Himalayan Dragon Fruits Enterprise seeks to contribute to import substitution, agricultural commercialization, employment generation, youth entrepreneurship, and Bhutan’s broader goals of sustainable economic development.
